Consequentialist libertarianism refers to libertarian philosophy which is supported by pragmatic arguments. That is, libertarian policies and values, in effect, acheive the greatest amount of prosperity for the greatest number of people. This form of reasoning is in contrast to Deontological libertarianism, which is supported on moral and principled basis, regardless of an expected outcome.
Notable consequentialist libertarians[]
- John Stossel, host of Fox Business TV show Stossel
- Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico and 2012 Libertarian Party presidential nominee
